Our Story

818 Music Group was founded in 2020 by Gretchen O'Neal and Melodee Sutton — childhood friends born on the same day who each built distinguished, 20+-year careers in the film and television industry. Bringing together deep experience in music supervision, rights, production and entertainment law, they joined forces to give creators a single partner that understands both artistic needs and the complex business of music for picture.

From our earliest projects, Gretchen and Melodee focused on making music work for storytelling — whether by navigating licensing, shaping budgets, or sourcing the right composers and recordings. That pragmatic, creator-first approach quickly earned trust from independent filmmakers, production companies, and brands, and remains at the center of 818MG's work: delivering smart rights strategy, reliable clearance, and creative music solutions that let projects shine.
